Crafter and ARTpreneur, Emily Denton, is the creative force behind Flea Circus Fabrications, a modern, DIY, arts and crafts company for “people who like to live creatively.”

Whether it’s cute plush creatures hand sewn from mittens, or making beautiful, beaded bookmarks and charms, Emily’s passion for her work is distinct in how she shares and teaches what she loves. Intimate, focused, her classes and workshops are popping up everywhere, and have quickly built a following of people who want to tap in to their inner creative.

As our first artist in The 12 Days of an ARTful Holiday, Emily takes a moment from her busy schedule to share what she does, and where you can find it.

Can you share with us a bit about your work and how you got started?

“A Mid-Western girl at heart, I have always had a love for art, to create, and make things.

I moved to Worcester in 2005. I didn’t know anyone here and I didn’t see much happening in the City in the way of arts or cultural events.  I’m sure they existed, but I didn’t know where to find them. I started brainstorming different events and fun community activities that I could coordinate and execute.  All with an underlying theme of making art with people who wanted to nurture their own artistic talent. My ideas slowly evolved into my current business, Flea Circus Fabrications.

My business offers local, pop-up craft workshops at bars and eating establishments.  I can also be hired as art entertainment for private functions.  I’ve recently added parent and child friendly workshops under the name Happy Handmade, which pulls from my years of experience owning a small daycare and creating with young children. I may also be booked for art and craft themed birthday parties for adults and children.”

How do you see your business changing with the current climate of creative arts in Worcester?

“My business is constantly evolving and changing. Eventually I would love to have my own studio where I can offer classes, and focus on developing my weaving and macramé skills.  I LOVE working with textiles.  It feels very comforting to me to have a house full of colorful, soft tapestries and wall décor.”

Where can people interested in booking a class or purchasing your work find you?

“You can find my local events and workshops through my website http://fleacircusfabrications.com/ or my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Flea-Circus-Fabrications. You can also follow me on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/fleacircusfabrications/

Happy Crafting!”

The 12 Days of an ARTful Holiday features local artists, crafters, and makers who work and/or live in Worcester, for 12 consecutive days of the holiday season.  By letting them share their work in their own words, I am hoping readers will recognize the incredibly talented community of creatives we have here in our city, and consider their pieces and classes as a thoughtful, hand crafted, local option for gift giving this season.
