18-Year-Old Worcester Man Facing Firearm Charges

WORCESTER – Just after midnight on Wednesday morning an SUV that did not stop for a stop sign on Jackson St. was pulled over by police on Southbridge St.

A backseat passenger, 18-year-old Jomani Kelly of Country Club Boulevard, was seen by police acting erratically as if to hide something.

When Kelly was removed from the vehicle, he pushed an officer and ran across Southbridge St.

Officers soon caught Kelly and brought him to the ground. A handgun was seen in Kelly’s waistband and was removed by officers. After being placed in handcuffs, Kelly attempted to kick officers.

Kelly did not have a license to carry a firearm .The weapon was later determined to be stolen.

Inside the vehicle officers found several bags of marijuana and an open bottle of liquor.

Kelly has been charged with

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Two counts of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Receiving Stolen Property
