WORCESTER – A 20-year-old Worcester man was stabbed outside of Shaw’s supermarket on West Boylston St on Friday night during a large fight in the parking lot.
According to the Worcester Police Department [WPD], officers responded to Shaw’s around 9 PM for a report of six to seven individuals fighting in the parking lot and that one of the individuals had a knife.
Upon arrival, however, officers couldn’t locate the fight and after searching the area cleared the scene.
Later in the evening, officers received a call from a local hospital stating that a stabbing victim had arrived in the emergency room. Officers went to the hospital and spoke with the victim who had a stab wound from the fight. The stab was non life-threatening.
The victim told the officers that he and a friend arrived at Shaw’s in his vehicle. The victim was exiting his car when he was approached by a male that was confrontational. The two began to fight and the victim was jumped from behind by another male. The victim’s friend, still inside the car, observed the two on one fight so he exited the vehicle and entered the fight to help his friend. At this time other males entered the fight. Outnumbered, the victim and his friend were able to get back into his vehicle and drive away. A few minutes after leaving the area the victim realized that he had been stabbed and drove himself to a nearby hospital.
At this time the altercation does not appear random.
