WORCESTER – A police officer stopping at a retail store observed a man acting suspiciously, leading to an arrest on firearms charges, Monday, September 27.

An officer with the Neighborhood Response Team entered the parking lot at Walgreens on Grafton Street and parked around 7:30 PM. A man in the driver’s seat of a Nissan Sentra in the lot noticed the officer as he was reaching into a bag in the back seat. The man reacted to seeing the officer by pulling his hand from the bag and looking straight ahead.

The officer ran a check of the registration while in the store and learned the registration did not match the vehicle.

According to the Worcester Police Department, the Nissan left Walgreens and entered the lot at Dunkin’. When leaving Dunkin’, the driver failed to use a turn signal, then turned onto Waverly Street without stopping at a red light. The officer initiated a traffic stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed an open container of marijuana in plain view.

Police say the driver, Javier Aguilar, 20, of Worcester, exited the vehicle on his own and consented to a search of the vehicle.

Aguilar’s backpack was open on the back seat. Officers located a handgun and another loaded magazine within it.

Aguilar faces charges of

  • Improperly Storing a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Possession of a Large Firearm
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
