WORCESTER – Police responded to Great Brook Valley on Wednesday, April 28, and determined an individual entered a New Vista Lane apartment and threatened those inside with a firearm.
The armed individual also stole items from inside the home and a vehicle from one resident.
The investigation led to identifying Joshua Zavala-Castro, 24, of Worcester, as the potential perpetrator. Personnel across the Worcester Police Department received notification to be on the lookout for Zavala-Castro.
An officer on patrol around Mason St. saw Zavala-Castro enter a vehicle as a passenger on Monday, May 2, just before midnight. The officer conducted a traffic stop near Piedmont St. and Chandler St.
Zavala-Castro gave a fake name to officers. After they determined the person in the vehicle was Zavala-Castro, he was arrested.
Zavala-Castro faces the following charges:
- Armed Home Invasion
- Armed Robbery
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Firearm without FID
- Possession of Ammunition without FID
- Unlawful Carrying of a Loaded Firearm
- Use of a Firearm during a Felony
