SOUTHBRIDGE – Two men were arrested on Thursday evening after members of the Southbridge Police Department witnessed a suspected transaction on Everett Street.
Upon approaching the first vehicle, 25-year-old Nicholas Harrington of Holland was witnessed holding a syringe. After he attempted to discard it, he was arrested.
When police approached the vehicle of the other party to the transaction, 36-year-old Gary Ortiz of Southbridge was witnessed counting a substantial amount of money. Upon searching Ortiz’s vehicle police recovered 330 packets of heroin, some $8,000 in cash, a digital scale and packaging materials.
Both men were arrested without incident.
Harrington was charged with possession with intent to distribute a class A controlled substance (heroin) and impeding an investigation by destruction of evidence.
Ortiz was charged with possession with intent to distribute and distribution of class A controlled substance (heroin). He was also charged with possession of class B controlled substance (cocaine).
