Weekend Traffic Advisory from Worcester PD

The Worcester Police Department have announced intermittent traffic control and anticipated traffic delays for this weekend due to scheduled events in the city.

The WPD is advising drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to take extra care to obey the rules of the road and to be considerate of others traveling on local streets.

The following events may have an impact on the flow of traffic in the areas indicated:

Sept. 7 – Canal Diggers Road Race– Drivers can expect intermittent delays and detours from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Harding Street, Green Street, and parts of Franklin Street and Francis McGrath Blvd.

Sept. 7 – Worcester Pride Parade and Festival – Drivers can expect delays beginning at 10:30 AM on Salisbury Street from Institute Park to Grove Street, across Highland Street and Main Street to the Common. Worcester Pride will also host a celebration on the Common from 12 to 5 PM.

The first 400 customers to visit the Price Rite Markets in Worcester today will receive a $20 Price Rite Marketplace gift card in celebration of ribbon cuttings at their two locations to reveal rebranded stores.

The rebranded stores will feature bright, revitalized décor, including a market-style produce department brimming with fresh fruit, vegetables and organics, and the new ‘Drop Zone’ stocked with special surprise buys on must-have grocery items. Unique new private label and organic products can also be found on shelves and lower prices extend across hundreds of products.

Worcester Public Library Celebrating Library Card Month

The Worcester Public Library (WPL) is joining the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide in celebration this month for Library Card Sign-Up Month. 

With every new library card sign-up, you will receive a fun gift, a colorful WPL lanyard [while supplies last]. For one month only, the library will also be giving out free replacement library cards. If you have misplaced your library card and would like a new one just visit any library location during the month of September, and we will replace it free of charge.


Hanover Theatre to Host ’80s Tribute Band Night

The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts will host the ultimate tribute to three of the biggest bands of the decade when Titans of ’80s Rock roars onto the stage next winter.

The show — which will include tributes to Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Poison — is Saturday, February 29 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now to members and go on sale to the public on Tuesday, September 10 at 10 AM. 

Expect a big-time arena rock party atmosphere as three incredible headliners deliver dozens of glam metal hits, all in one night, and have you rocking and reliving the excitement of that era.


Sheriff’s Office Annual Winter Coat Drive is Underway

The 2019 Worcester County Sheriff’s Annual Winter Coat Drive has launched and is currently accepting donations of new and lightly used winter coats for those in need.

Sheriff Lew Evangelidis and his office will be collecting donations from now until November.
