In today’s edition – Tuesday, August 25 –QCC launches a golf themed fundraiser, Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream is open at Worcester Public Market, walk-in job interviews today at Insomnia Cookies, local fire departments get grant awards from FEMA and gas prices in Massachusetts drop another penny this week.

 

QCC Launches Unique Golf Fundraiser

The Quinsigamond Community College Foundation is holding the “30 Rounds in 30 Days” golf-inspired fundraiser.

Participants are eligible to win several prizes, including a grand prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas, four night accommodations, and an 18-hole round of golf for two at the world famous Cascata Golf Club.

Other prizes include golf trips to Florida, Cape Cod and 27 golf courses and clubs across New England.

The goal is to raise up to $50,000 with all proceeds from the fundraiser going toward the college’s Food Pantry and Resource Center and the Foundation’s Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Only 1,000 tickets will be sold during this fundraiser, and no tickets will be sold after August 31 at 4:00 p.m.

Each day in September a winner will be chosen, with winning tickets based on the last three digits of the Massachusetts mid-day daily lottery number. To learn more, visit QCC.edu/30rounds.

 

Ice Cream at Worcester Public Market

Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream is now open at the Worcester Public Market in Kelley Square.

Sub Zero provides fresh ice cream made right before the customer’s eyes using a cream base, flavors and mix-in options (fruits, nuts, candies). When the liquid nitrogen flows into the bowl, the ingredients instantly become smooth and creamy customized ice cream.

The franchisees, Rita and Mark McCabe, learned about the franchise opportunity on an episode of ABC’s Shark Tank and pursued bringing the concept to New England.

The McCabes opened their first location in Nashua, NH in 2014. They were one of the original companies to sign on Worcester Public Market. The couple hopes to open a full store in Worcester in 2021.

 

On the Spot Job Interviews at Insomnia Cookies

Insomnia Cookies is having a hiring even at their store on Tuesday, August 25, from 2 PM to 10 PM.

Job seekers who go to any Insomnia Cookies store, including the store at 1 Kelley Square in Worcester, will get an interview on the spot and a free cookie.

Stores are hiring for bakers, car & bike delivery drivers, and shift leads.

 

Federal Grants to Local Fire Departments

The Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA] announced its latest funding round through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Awardees in Worcester County included:

  • Worcester: $332,282 for firefighter training
  • Oxford: $200,000 for firefighter breathing apparatus
  • Oakham: $61,905  for an air compressor / breathing apparatus refill system

The latest round of funding delivered awards to 221 fire departments nationwide for a total of $42.4 million.

 

Gas Prices Drop One Penny in MA

According to AAA Northeast, the average cost of a gallon of gas in Massachusetts dropped by one cent this week to $2.11

The average price in Rhode Island remained the same this week, at $2.13 per gallon.

In Connecticut, the average price went up by one penny to $2.19 per gallon.

One year ago the average cost per gallon of gas in Massachusetts was $2.66 per gallon.
