In today’s daily 5 Things You Need to Know feature, ThisWeekinWorcester.com explores five important items and stories that Worcester and Central Massachusetts residents should keep a close eye on.

In today’s edition – Wednesday, September 16 –QCC hosts free drive-thru COVID-19 testing, Worcester Public Library Receives $400,000, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is September 18, the Great Fenway Writers Series and get six free McNuggets today

QCC Hosts Free Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing

Quinsigamond Community College [QCC] will host free, drive-thru, COVID-19 testing on its main campus at 670 West Boylston St. between September 16 and September 30.

Testing is open to the public. Anyone is eligible for testing, regardless of the existence of symptoms. Testing being conducted does not require insurance.

Anyone with interest in being tested must make an appointment by calling (508) 847-0623.

Drive-thru tests will be conducted during the following times:

  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 PM – 7 PM
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 AM – 1 PM
  • Fridays from 3 PM – 6 PM

Testing at QCC is part of the Massachusetts “Stop the Spread” program. AIDS Project Worcester will conduct the tests.

Worcester Public Library Receives $400,000 from a Trust

The Worcester Public Library Foundation is a beneficiary of the Denise E. Nangle Trust in an amount that exceeds $400,000.

Nangle was an active volunteer through Friends of the Worcester Public Library, a non-profit organization of volunteers that helps enhance the library’s services.

Nangle will receive the 2020 Dr. Willam F. and Betty O’Neil Service Award posthumously in recognition of her generous gift and long-time volunteer service at the Worcester Public Library.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is September 18

Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial President Phil Madiao and Chair of the Korean War Memorial Committee Francis Carroll will host a remembrance event to honor those who have not returned home from military combat at Green Hill Park on Friday, September 18, at 10 AM.

The event will particularly highlight three local men from the Vietnam War:

  • Russell P. Bott, US Army – Worcester
  • Michael J. Kustigian, US Navy – Worcester
  • John R. Henn, US Army – Sutton

Since World War II, more than 81,900 members of the United States Armed Forces remain missing and unaccounted for.

The Great Fenway Park Writers Series

National Baseball Writer for the Wall Street Journal, Jared Diamond, will take part in a free webinar to talk about his book “Swing Kings: The Inside Story of Baseball’s Home Run Revolution.”

The webinar is part of the Great Fenway Park Writers Series and will take place on Thursday, September 17 at 7 PM.

On Wednesday, September 16, the new Spicy Chicken McNuggets will be available at participating McDonald’s locations.

For today only, McDonalds is offering “Spicesurance.” If you are skeptical about the spicy McNuggets you can use the McDonalds app to buy one 6-piece Spicy Chicken McNuggets and you’ll have the option to add an additional 6-piece, classic for free.

If you are all in for the spicy McNuggets, you can select the free 6-piece as the spicy version free as well.
