Election Season Brings Political Scams
The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers that upcoming elections are likely to generate scammers pretending to be pollsters, campaign volunteers, fundraisers, and even candidates.
Some examples you might encounter include fundraising for candidates or charities, polls that offer a prize for answering questions or people impersonating candidates or notable people.
Some tips to avoid these political scams:
- Donate directly to the campaign office
- Watch for spoofed calls
- Beware of prize offers
- Don’t give out personal or banking information
- Research fundraising organizations before donating (Give.org)
Energy Efficiency Project Begins Stage Five
The fifth stage of Worcester’s implementation of the Municipal Energy Saving Project began last week, with 169 lights changed out at Midland Elementary School last week.
Stage five of the project replaces existing fluorescent fixtures with high efficiency, motion-sensor LEDs at 48 schools, 9 fire stations & 10 municipal buildings across Worcester.
This is the last stage of the multi-year project that has included improving aging buildings, upgrades to heating and cooling systems, installation of sophisticated energy management control systems, and more.
The project has also included the solar projects at Worcester Technical High School and Sullivan Middle School, nine other solar energy installations and lighting retrofits to LEDs in some 14,000 street lights and four municipal parking garages.

The McFlurry Turns 25
McDonald’s is celebrating the 25th birthday of the McFlurry with the Chips Ahoy® McFlurry, now available for a limited time.
McDonald’s is also releasing its McFlurry 25th B-Day Suit on Friday, September 25, at 11:30 AM. The loungewear features lightweight fabric in a structured, suit-like silhouette with a pattern displaying three delicious McFlurry flavors: OREO®, M&M’S® and NEW Chips Ahoy!®
The new item will be available on the McDonald’s online merch shop.
Governor Nominates Judge to Probate and Family Court
Governor Charlie Baker has nominated Kimberly Moses Smith as Associate Justice of the Probate and Family Court.
Moses Smith opened a law firm in 1996 and concentrated on domestic relations matters as well as civil litigation and criminal defense. She joined Moses Smith, Markey & Walsh in New Bedford as a managing partner in 2001 and argued cases in District, Superior, and Probate and Family Courts, handling a wide range of matters including divorce and custody, guardianships and conservatorships, and estate related matters.
Moses Smith has served as a Board Member and President of both the Bristol County Bar Association and the New Bedford Bar Association.
The Probate and Family Court Department has jurisdiction over family-related and probate matters such as divorce, paternity, child support, custody, parenting time, adoption, termination of parental rights, abuse prevention and wills, estates, trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and changes of name.
