State Police Sobriety Checkpoint this Weekend

The Massachusetts State Police announced they will hold a sobriety checkpoint in Worcester County.

State Police will operate the checkpoint on Friday, April 16 into Saturday, April 17.

State Police said inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice.

 

DCU Center Hiring Full and Part-Time

The DCU Center is preparing for reopening and adding people to its team.

Four full-time openings are open including:

  • Chief Engineer/ Plant Manager
  • Human Resources Designee
  • Facility Technician
  • Housekeeper

The open part-time positions include:

  • Security Guard/ Exec Desk 24-7
  • Security/ Usher
  • Housekeeper/Custodian
  • Changeover/ Set up Laborer

George Thorogood & The Destroyers at Indian Ranch in September

Indian Ranch announced George Thorogood & The Destroyers will be bringing the “Good To Be Bad – 45 Years of Rock” tour to the Summer Concert Series in Webster on Sunday, September 19.

In addition, Indian Ranch announced local shows Jediah with Brevity on May 1 and Mychael David on May 8. T

ickets for all three shows go on-sale this Friday, April 16 at 10:00 AM. The Insiders Club presale will take place from Wednesday, April 14 at 10:00 AM through Thursday, April 15 at 11:59PM.

Since 1976, George Thorogood & The Destroyers have sold over 15 million albums, built a classic catalog of hits, and played more than 8,000 ferocious live shows. They broke records with their 50 Dates/50 States Tour, delivered landmark performances at Live Aid and on SNL, and became mainstays of radio, MTV and stages worldwide for more than two generations.

 

Cornerstone Bank Contributes to Nichols College Educational Fund

Cornerstone Bank donated $15,000 to the K. Michael Robbins Endowed Scholarship fund at Nichols College in honor of recently retired Cornerstone Bank CEO Mike Robbins.

Scholarship awards go to students in the Central Massachusetts community. Both incoming and returning Nichols College students are eligible.

Robbins graduated from Nichols College in 1980 and started working at Spencer Savings Bank a few years later, eventually becoming President & CEO of Spencer Savings Bank/SpencerBANK in 2003.

When SpencerBANK and Southbridge Savings Bank merged in 2016 to become Cornerstone Bank, he became Chairman & CEO. He retired this past December.

 

Gas Prices Stay the Same This Week in MA

AAA Northeast reports changes in gas prices across the region on a weekly basis.

Massachusetts’s average gas price stayed the same as last week, averaging $2.74 per gallon. That price is the one cent higher than a month ago ($2.73), and 74 cents higher than April 12, 2020 ($2.00).

Massachusetts’s average gas price is 12  cents lower than the national average.

AAA Northeast’s April 12 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 1 cents higher than last week, averaging $2.86 a gallon. Today’s national average price is three cents higher than a month ago ($2.83), and 1 dollar cents cheaper than this day last year ($1.86).
