In today’s edition – Wednesday, April 21 – Armsby Abbey reopens on Wednesday, the Junior Bravehearts program enters its seventh season, Cornerstone Bank hosts Young Professionals Day on May 1, the Commonwealth Foundation of North Central Massachusetts awards its second COVID-19 relief grant and the Worcester Chamber Music Society concert “Horizons” premieres on April 25.

 

Armsby Abbey Reopens  Today – Tuesday, April 21

The Armsby Abbey, at 144 Main St. in Worcester, reopens its doors on Wednesday, April 21.

With COVID-19 protocols in place, there are just 10 tables and 12 bar seats, so reservations through RESY are highly recommended. Reservations are only available within 7 days.

Armsby Abbey will also offer take-out service upon reopening.

During its closure, the entre team at the restaurant is ServSafe certified for COVID-19 safety protocols. Current protocols require not more than six people per table and a strict 90-minute time limit. Masks are required. Junior Bravehearts Program Returns for 7th Season

The Worcester Bravehearts announced on Tuesday, April 20, the return of the Junior Bravehearts Program.

For the seventh consecutive season the Bravehearts partner with Northeast Promotion & Apparel to bring free hats and uniforms to youth baseball and softball teams across Central Massachusetts.

Since 2015, the Bravehearts and Northeast Promotion have provided uniforms for over 75 teams across Central Massachusetts.

Along with receiving free hats and uniforms, league partners will also receive free Bravehearts Kid’s Club memberships for all youth players in league, a Jake the Lion appearance at a Junior Bravehearts game, and a “Field of Dreams” experience. This experience allows the youth players to take the field with the Bravehearts during pregame ceremonies.

Other benefits include the “Bravehearts Buddies” experience, where players can play catch with the Bravehearts on the field at any catered outing. Youth players will also receive a 10% discount on Bravehearts Summer Camps.

 

Cornerstone Bank Hosts Young Professionals Day on May 1

Cornerstone Bank holds Young Professionals Day on Saturday, May 1, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Old Sturbridge Village.

The event is geared towards people starting or changing their career, looking to network, opening a small business or looking for a better work-life balance.

Young Professionals Day will feature a TEDx talk about money and relationships, interactive budgeting activities, a panel of small business owners, a discussion about health insurance and benefits options and an overview of the best-selling talent assessment tool, CliftonStrengths.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with Cornerstone Bank employees about career opportunities and personal banking options. Every participant will receive a Yeti tumbler and padfolio, and there will also be raffles throughout the event for other prizes.

Entry into Old Sturbridge Village is $28 for adults and $14 for college students. Tickets must be purchased on their website in advance. There is no additional fee for entry to Young Professionals Day. The first 25 people to register will receive free entry to Old Sturbridge Village. Email [email protected] to for registration.

 

Commonwealth Foundation Awarded Second COVID Relief Grant

The Commonwealth Foundation of North Central Massachusetts [CFNCM] announced on Monday, April 19, its receipt of a grant of $290,575 from the Massachusetts Commonwealth COVID Grant Program.

CFNCM received an award of $654,754 in February of this year from the program.

CFNCM announced it would distribute the funds to the following programs:

  • $50,000 to the Spanish American Center in Leominster
  • $60,000 to the Athol YMCA
  • $20,000 to Making Opportunity Count in Fitchburg
  • $20,000 to Catholic Charities Worcester County
  • $124,718 to WHEAT Community Connections in Clinton

Founded in 2001, CFNCM serves charitable interests in Ashburnham, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Barre, Bolton, Clinton, Devens, Erving, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hubbardston, Lancaster, Leominster, Littleton, Lunenburg, New Salem, Orange, Pepperell, Petersham, Phillipston, Princeton, Royalston, Shirley, Sterling, Templeton, Townsend, Warwick, Wendell, Westminster and Winchendon.

 

Worcester Chamber Music Society Premiers “Horizons” on Sunday

The Worcester Chamber Music Society continues its 15 th concert season with the on-line premiere of “Horizons” recorded at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

The premier is Sunday, April 25 at 4 PM. The program will be on-demand from April 26 through June 30.

The program features Samuel Barber’s Dover Beach, Hilary Tann’s Llef and Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Trio, Op. 97 “Archduke.”
