Eversource Warns on Scams Targeting Utility Customers

Eversource Energy is urges vigilance from consumers in the face of increasing scams.

Scammers are using phony caller IDs that display Eversource and scripts that sound like a legitimate company representative, threatening to disconnect electric or gas service due to an unpaid bill.

Eversource offers the following tips to avoid falling victim to one of these scams:

Eversource representatives never demand instant payment on the phone, require pre-paid debit cards or request customers to meet at a “payment center.”

Never provide personal financial or account information to any unsolicited person on the phone, at the door or online.

Beware that some scammers can manipulate what appears on a caller ID.

Customers scheduled for disconnection due to nonpayment receive written notice that includes information on how to maintain service.

Customers can verify they are speaking with a genuine Eversource representative by asking for basic information about their account; name on the account, account address, the exact past due balance.

Anyone who believes they are a target of an improper solicitation should contact local law enforcement immediately. Eversource customers are also asked to contact (877) 659-6326 for verification if they receive a call, text, email or if someone shows up at the door.
