5 Things You Need to Know Today in Worcester – October 8, 2019

Don’t miss your chance to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail in downtown Worcester this winter with a Q&A with comedy legend John Cleese.

On Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 PM at the The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts — for one night only — Cleese will take questions from a moderator and audience members, tell stories and share the air-speed of an unladen swallow. 

Tickets go on sale to members on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and to the public on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10 AM. Tickets start at $49. 

A limited number of VIP tickets will be available which include a photo opportunity with Cleese. Discounts are available for members and groups of 10 or more. 4-Day LGBTQ+ Film Festival Returns to Worcester this Weekend

qFLIX Worcester — a 4-day international LGBTQ+ film festival and the largest LGBTQ+ arts and cultural event in the region — will return to Worcester this weekend starting Thursday, Oct. 10. 

The festival will feature nearly 30 films from around the world. There will be Q&A’s with the filmmakers and audience members will be able to vote on their favorite films for the Audience Awards. 

CLUBq — an LGBTQ+ popup dance bar —  will be set up in different venues throughout the city.

Worcester State University to Host City Council Candidate Forum

Worcester State University will be hosting a city council forum on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 PM – 9 PM to allow the candidates to discuss how they plan to serve their QT/POC constituents in Worcester.

The forum is made possible through a partnership between Shades by Worcester Pride, the Diversity and Inclusion Office of Worcester State University, YWCA, Worcester chapter of the NAACP, and Worcester Pride.

The forum aims to educate voters on issues centering and affecting Worcester’s LGBTQIA+ and Queer/Trans* People of Color [QTPOC] communities.

 

Gas Prices Down 3 Cents Across Massachusetts

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down three cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s October 7 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.52 per gallon — 13 cents below the national average of $2.65.

“Most motorists around the country are seeing gas prices stabilize or decline,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Director of Public and Legislative Affairs. “On the whole, we are seeing gasoline demand pushing lower amid healthy supply levels, ultimately keeping prices stable or cheaper for most motorists.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 76 cents, from a low of $2.29 to a high of $3.05. 

 

Worcester Gets Ranked on Back End of ‘Foodie’ Cities in America

In their latest report — 2019’s Best Foodie Cities in America — the data experts at WalletHub have ranked Worcester #155 out of more than 180 cities studied.

WalletHub compared the cities across 30 key metrics with data set ranges from affordability and accessibility of high-quality restaurants to food festivals per capita to craft breweries and wineries per capita.

Worcester ranked #163 in affordability, and #121 in diversity, accessibility and quality.
