Doherty High Design and Location Public Meeting Scheduled for 7/15

On Monday, July 15 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, Doherty High School will host a public meeting on the design and location ideas for the new school.

The discussion will include:

  • A Summary of Input received at Visioning Sessions
  • Collection of Additional Feedback from individuals unable to attend the Visioning Sessions
  • A Project Update

 

 

Holy Cross to Introduce New Men’s Basketball Coach Brett Nelson Today

Holy Cross Athletics will hold a press conference at 11:00 AM today to introduce new head men’s basketball coach Brett Nelson. The press conference will take place in the Doran Auditorium on the first floor of the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex.

The 18th head coach in the history of the program, Nelson joins the Crusaders after spending five seasons on the coaching staff at Marquette University, including the last two as associate head coach. The Golden Eagles posted an overall record of 97-69 during that time, with two trips to the NCAA Tournament and one to the National Invitation Tournament. 

Anna Maria College to Host School’s First ‘Battle of the Badges’ Program

Of the course of two days – July 19 and 20 — Anna Maria College will host its first annual “Battle of the Badges”

The program is free and is designed to bring high school and transfer students together with leaders in local, state, and federal-level law enforcement, emergency management, and fire prevention agencies. The event will combine live-demonstrations and speakers from the United States Marshal’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, the Worcester and Holden Police Departments, Boston Fire Department, the FBI Academy, Worcester Drug Enforcement Administration, and Anna Maria College faculty.

This two-day, overnight event will provide students with the opportunity to:

  • View live-demonstrations of leading technology being used today
  • Interact and learn from professionals about specific careers and job placement opportunities
  • Meet and compete with other student participants in fun, educational events

New Worcester Windows Display to Run Through Early October

The new Worcester Windows program — UnWoven Journeyswill be displayed July 2 through October 1, 2019 in downtown Worcester.

Worcester Windows is a community gallery program and part of the City’s new cultural plan which uses City Hall and participating storefronts throughout downtown Worcester as exhibit space to showcase the City’s local artists and growing downtown area. 

Pieces from UnWoven Journeys were on display at the Worcester PopUp in June of 2019. From now until Oct. 1, multiple pieces from the show will be displayed at City Hall, Brew on the Grid, WICN Radio, The Worcester PopUp, and The Hanover Theatre.

UnWoven Journeys is an exhibit of art and craftaddressing refugee and immigrant status in the United States. In the exhibit, local art initiatives Healing Fibers, Refugee Artisans of Worcester, and Sisters in Stitches are joined by the Cloth Quilt Guild, coming together to present a colorful exhibit of quilting and visual arts and crafts. 

 

Worcester Ranked #171 out of 300 for Best Cities for First-Time Home Buyers

In their latest report — 2019’s Best & Worst Cities for First-Time Home Buyers — the data experts at WalletHub have ranked Worcester 171st out of 300 cities studied.

WalletHub compared the 300 cities of varying sizes across 27 key indicators of market attractiveness, affordability and quality of life with data set ranges from cost of living to real-estate taxes to property-crime rate.

Worcester got high marks — ranked #39 out of 300 — in “Quality of Life.”

Tampa, FL was ranked #1.
