Preventative Treatment at Indian Lake

The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks has announced that Indian Lake will be treated with aluminum sulfate on Thursday, June 3.

Individuals should stay out of the water, refrain from using boats, and keep their pets out of the water on the day of the treatment.

Signs will be posted on the beaches of Indian Lake prior to the treatment.

Aluminum sulfate, also known as alum, is a safe and effective way to control the growth of harmful, toxin-producing algae by removing phosphorus from the water. The application of alum is a common practice to maintain a healthy lake and keeping it free of cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae, and associated toxins. This preventative treatment poses minimal risk to humans and animals after application is complete.
