In today’s edition – Thursday, May 27 – applications are open for free Administrative Medical Professional training at QCC, Big Brother Big Sister Foundation to pick up used clothing and household goods in Worcester on June 1, the Worcester Historical Museum will host a virtual panel, the Worcester Bravehearts’ home opener cut short by weather and a new real estate office on Shrewsbury St. opens.

 

Applications Open for Free Administrative Medical Professional Training at QCC

Quinsigamond Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Center (WDCC) is offering a free, grant-funded Administrative Medical Professional Training program that will prepare students for a career as a medical administrative assistant.

An in-person summer class is being offered June 28 through August 3, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 2 PM, with a maximum of 10 students accepted.

The deadline to apply is June 14.

Big Brother Big Sister Pickups in Worcester on June 1

Trucks from Big Brother Big Sister will be in Worcester on Tuesday, June 1, picking up donations of used clothing and household goods.

Drivers come to your home to pick up items, which you can leave on your porch if you choose.

See the list of acceptable items and schedule a pickup on the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation website.

 

Worcester Historical Museum Virtual Panel “Black Faces in White Places”

The Worcester Black History Project, Worcester County Light Opera Company and Worcester Historical Museum present a virtual panel discussion on Thursday, June 17 from 7 PM to 8 PM.

The panel discussion, called Black Faces in White Spaces, discusses Black experiences at predominantly white institutions.

The panel includes:

  • Shanez’e Johnson – Wellesley College graduate, former Worcester student and current resident
  • Professor Maria Hylton – Boston University
  • Dr. Nicole Overstreet – Clark University
  • Xaulanda Thorpe – Boston University graduate and Worcester resident

Worcester Bravehearts Home Opener Cut Short

Thunderstorms rolling into the area cut the 2021 Worcester Bravehearts home opener against the Westfield Starfires was cut short before the end of the third inning on Wednesday, May 27.

The Bravehearts scored in both innings they came to the plate, leading 4-1 when the game was postponed.

FCBL rules require the game resumed at the point of suspension and the full nine inning game completed. The Bravehearts will announce the make up date in the future

Fans can use their ticket stubs from Wednesday for admission when the remainder of the game is concluded.

 

Local Real Estate Professional Opens Shrewsbury St. RE/MAX Office

A new RE/MAX office, RE/MAX Diverse, opened at 124 Shrewsbury St. in Worcester on Tuesday, May 25.

Hejoma Garcia, who joined RE/MAX 10 years ago, opened to office to serve the Worcester area and the Latino community.

Hejoma also serves as a board member for the Central Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
