In today’s edition – Tuesday, June 15 – the FCBL returns to NESN in July with Bravehearts staff member and local native Donny Porcaro Jr. calling play-by-play, the Worcester Public Library hosts a free virtual program on child development, the Worcester Historical Museum is hosting a program about the earliest days of baseball in Worcester, the Worcester Center for Crafts announces a new exhibition and gas prices are up two cents in Massachusetts this week.

Worcester Bravehearts Return to NESN in July

The Futures Collegiate Baseball League returns to NESN again this summer with one game each Saturday from July 10 through July 31. Each broadcast starts at noon.

The first game of the series, on Saturday, July 10, will broadcast from Fitton Field in Worcester at the College of the Holy Cross. The game features the Worcester Bravehearts hosting the Pittsfield Sun.

For the second year in a row, Worcester native Donny Porcaro Jr. will be the play-by-play announcer on NESN. Porcaro, who turns 23 on July 30, is in his fifth year as a Bravehearts production staff member.

Porcaro called the Bravehearts game on NESN last year. This year, he’ll call all four FCBL games on the network.

Worcester Public Library Hosts Virtual Program with Expert in Playful Learning

The Worcester Public Library [WPL] will holds a program with Roberta Michnick Golinkoff, Ph.D., an expert in playful learning and child development.

The free program, “Why We Need Playful Learning More than Ever: Life After Covid,” is Thursday, June 24 at 4:30 PM on Zoom.

Attendees will hear from Dr. Golinkoff on the importance of playful learning for a growing child’s academic, social, and physical well-being.

Early Worcester Baseball program by the Worcester Historical Museum

The Worcester Historical Museum presents a virtual event on Wednesday, June 16, at 7 PM called “Early Worcester Baseball.”

Three baseball historians, Bill Ballou, Brian Goslow, and Dr. Janette Greenwood will share stories and little-known facts about the early days of baseball in Worcester from the Civil War to the Worcesters.

Learn about local teams, long games, fields of play, and the city’s brief adventure in the National League.

Registration is required.

Worcester Center for Crafts New Exhibition

The Krikorian Gallery at the Worcester Center for Crafts opens its “From Our Studios” exhibition on Thursday, June 24, from 5 PM to 7 PM.

The exhibition showcases the talents and creative work of the Worcester Center for Crafts students in our ceramics, metals, glass, and photography programs.

Pieces will be on view and available for sale.

The exhibition runs through July 17.

Summer hours for the Krikorian Gallery are:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Thursday: 10:00 am – 8:00 pm
  • Saturday: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Worcester Center for Crafts is at 25 Sagamore Rd. in Worcester.

Gas Prices Up Two Cent This Week in MA

AAA Northeast reports changes in gas prices across the region on a weekly basis.

Massachusetts’s average gas price is up two cents from last week, averaging $2.95 per gallon. That price is the five cents higher than a month ago ($2.90), and 91 cents higher than June 14, 2020 ($2.01).

Massachusetts’s average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average.

AAA Northeast’s June 14 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be three cents higher than last week, averaging $3.08 a gallon. Today’s national average price is five cents higher than a month ago ($3.03), and 98 cents cheaper than this day last year ($2.10).
