The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office announced Sheriff Lew Evangelidis promoted Dennis Dowd of Worcester to Assistant Deputy Superintendent. Dowd is now responsible for the daily security operations of the Modular Compound monitoring inmate activity and overseeing correctional staff, hospital coverage, and the New Man, Quarantine, and Transition Unit buildings while ensuring safety of both inmates and staff.

Dowd joined the Sheriff’s Department in 1997. He was promoted to sergeant in 2007, lieutenant in 2014, and captain in 2017. Dowd is a graduate of Nichols College and holds a bachelor’s degree in management.

The 20th Annual Youth Worker Training Institute Graduation

The 20th annual Youth Worker Training Institute (YWTI) graduation is at the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester on Monday, May 2, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM.

This year, 44 graduates will be recognized before an audience of friends and agency executives from 18 community organizations they have serve.

Joseph Corazzini, vice president of Government and Community Affairs at Clark University, will serve as the keynote speaker. Three current participants of the YWTI will also speak during the ceremony.

The Youth Worker Training Institute is a 15-week educational program to increase the knowledge and develop the skills of youth workers. Clark University students are engaged in the YWTI as part of their course, Fundamentals of Youth Work, and serve as mentors to newer, less experienced students. This is one of the required courses in Clark’s Youth Work Practice Certificate Program. UMass Memorial Health Care and Clark University fund the Youth Worker Training Institute.
