These five things can cover a whole range of subjects and issues that we feel are pertinent to understanding what’s going on in the city and the cities and towns surrounding Worcester.

In today’s edition – Friday, April 29 – the Out to Lunch festival returns to the Worcester Common Oval this summer, there’s an Arbor Day celebration in Worcester today, the city’s permanent winter parking ban ends this weekend, the Worcester Chamber Music Society is hosting its annual senior concert next month and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is hiring.

Out To Lunch Returns to the Common Oval this Summer

The City of Worcester and the Worcester Cultural Coalition present the Out to Lunch Festival and Farmers’ Market series, which will feature 3 weeks of live performances, crafters, food vendors and farmers, on Thursdays August 4, August 18 and September 1, each from 11 AM to 2 PM, on the historic Worcester Common Oval. Thursday, September 8 will be reserved for a rain-date.

This summer marks the 12 year celebration of the wildly popular festival series which has grown from a single event featuring a handful of vendors into a multi-week local extravaganza including sensational talent, delicious food, handmade crafts and more!

The vendor application is now open. Crafters, artisans, local farmers, food trucks, local restaurants, and local nonprofits are encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted until May 20.

Worcester to Hold Arbor Day Ceremony

City officials will host an Arbor Day ceremony today starting at 10 AM. The ceremony will highlight the importance of trees in the community and the many organizations that contribute to caring for Worcester’s
urban canopy.

Local leaders, partnering organizations, and state officials will contribute to a ceremonial tree planting at University Park. at the corner of Main Street and Crystal Street.

As 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day, the city continues its commitment to plant and nurture trees, rebuilding the urban canopy after the Asian longhorn beetle infestation started in 2008.

Worcester’s Winter Parking Ban Ends on Saturday

The permanent winter parking ban in Worcester comes to an end on Saturday.

The permanent winter parking ban goes into effect every year on December 1 until April 30. During the ban there’s no parking on Emergency Arteries, WRTA Bus Routes, and streets that are critical to the flow of traffic.
