In today’s edition – Friday, September 3 – the four candidates for Worcester City Councilor for District 5 meet in a public forum, there’s a groundbreaking for the new Shrewsbury Police Station this morning, Redemption Rock Brewing’s 2022 dog calendar competition opens, Awaken 180° Weightloss will open a location in Auburn, and the Worcester Railers extend the team’s broadcast agreement with 98.9 NASH ICON.

District 5 City Council Forum on September 9

The four city council candidates for District 5 will meet in a public forum on Thursday, September 9, at the IBEW Local 96 Hall at 242 Mill Street at 6:30 PM.

The candidates, Etel Haxhiaj, Yenni Desroches, Steve Quist, and Gregory Stratman, will meet in a forum moderated by Talk of the Commonwealth host Hank Stolz.

The forum is free and open to the public. Residents and business owners within District 5 are encouraged to attend.

Shrewsbury Police Station Groundbreaking

The groundbreaking for construction of the new Shrewsbury Police Station is Friday, September 3, at 8 AM. The groundbreaking is at 106 Maple Street in Shrewsbury, next to the current Police Station.

The event will feature remarks by:

  • Patrick Pitney, Chair of the Police Station Building Committee
  • Lietenant Governor Karyn Polito
  • State Representative Hannah Kane
  • John Samia, Chair of the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen
  • Kevin Mizikar, Town Manager
  • Kevin Anderson, Chief of Police.

Redemption Rock’s 2022 Taproom Dog Calendar Competition Opens

Redemption Rock Brewing Co. at 333 Shrewsbury Street opened its 2022 Dog Calendar Competition. Dog owners can enter through September 30.

To enter, bring your dog to the Redemption Rock Brewing Tap Room before September 30, fill out a form and have their staff take an image.

Between October 1 and October 30, Redemption Rock will hold an online vote. The vote earning images will be featured in the 2022 Redemption Rock Calendar.

Awaken 180° Weightloss Opening in Auburn

Worcester Railers Extend Broadcast Agreement with NASH ICON

The Worcester Railers announced on Wednesday, September 1, that the team has extended its broadcast agreement with 98.9 FM NASH ICON for the 2021 – 2022 season. It will be the fourth season of the collaboration with all 72 games broadcast on 98.9 FM and streamed on nashicon989.com this season.

The Railers season opens on the road on Friday, October 22 in Maine against the Mariners. The home opener at the DCU Center is Saturday, October 23, with Worcester hosting the second half of a home and home with the Mariners.

As ThisWeekinWorcester.com previously reported, Railers tickets go on sale on September 8.
