In today’s edition – Monday, March 29 – the Doherty High School Building Committee meets tonight for a vote, there’s three days of free COVID-19 testing this week, the Chamber of Commerce is seeking 25 recruits for Leadership Worcester, street sweeping starts today and Stillman Quality Meats is hiring a social media coordinator.

 

Doherty High Building Committee Meets Tonight

The Doherty Memorial High School Building Committee will meet tonight — Monday, March 29 — at 6:30 PM to present the design development submission for the proposed new Doherty High.

Following a Q&A session, the committee plans to vote on submitting the design development to the Massachusetts School Building Authority [MSBA].

Free COVID-19 Testing this Week in Worcester

The UMass Memorial Health Care COVID-19 Equity Task Force and the City of Worcester are offering free, walk-up COVID-19 testing this week.

The testing will take place indoors at Mercantile Center at 201 Commercial St. on the following days and times:

  • Monday, March 29, 11 AM to 3 PM
  • Tuesday, March 30, 11 AM to 3 PM
  • Thursday, April 1, 11 AM to 3 PM

No appointments are necessary.

 

Chamber of Commerce Seeks Recruits for Leadership Worcester 2022

The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking for 25 new members for the Leadership Worcester program.

Over the course of nine months, Leadership Worcester participants work with local leaders — learning about the area’s challenges and opportunities, and its unique institutions.

“The continued success of Worcester’s vibrant business community depends on programs like Leadership Worcester to prepare the next generation of talented leaders. As we’ve seen over the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic has only reinforced the importance of having strong and effective leaders in our communities,” said Timothy P. Murray, President and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. “This program also benefits employers by encouraging civic engagement and directly supporting the local pipeline of thought leaders and innovators.”

Leadership Worcester is in its seventh year. More information and instructions to apply can be found online at www.leadershipworcester.com. Applications are due by May 28, 2021.

Participants will be notified of their acceptance in July. Leadership Worcester participants will graduate in June 2022.

 

REMINDER: Street Sweeping Starts on Residential Streets Today

The Spring Street Sweeping Program in Worcester will start on residential streets beginning today — Monday, March 29.

Street sweeping will take place Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 4 PM.

Major arterial streets are already being swept overnight during the week from 11:30 PM to 7:30 AM.

City residents are reminded not to place yard waste in the street. Vehicles are not allowed to be parked in the street during scheduled street sweeping. Vehicles that are not in compliance will be tagged and towed, and owners may be fined up to $50.

Need a Job? Stillman Quality Meats is Looking for a Social Media Coordinator

Stillman Quality Meats — with a butcher shop at 157 Harding St. in Worcester’s Canal District — is seeking a part-time social media coordinator to manage the business’ social media accounts.

Candidates need to have a strong knowledge of social media platforms and a passion for local food, small farms and the work ethic to help grow the business’ brand. The social media coordinator will be required to take high quality photos and create engaging social media content.
