In today’s edition – Thursday, December 2 – Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 is holding a food drive this weekend, Massachusetts Pirates championship banner will be raised at Logan Airport today, Planet Fitness announces a new Lincoln Plaza location opening in January, Chipotle holds a fundraiser for Worcester Technical High School, and Big Brother Big Sister is making donation pickups in Worcester on Friday.

Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 Food Drive

The Worcester Fire Fighters Local 1009 holds a food drive on Sunday, December 5 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The drive benefits the Worcester County Food Bank.

Local 1009 members will be at all three Stop and Shop markets in Worcester and the Shaw’s Supermarket on Gold Star Boulevard, collecting goods for the drive.

Massachusetts Pirates Championship Banner Raising at Logan Airport

The Massachusetts Port Authority [Massport] hosts the Massachusetts Pirates at Logan Airport on Thursday, December 2, at 11 AM.

The Pirates won the Indoor Football League championship in August. On Thursday, Massport will raise a Pirates championship banner alongside the other banners of New England Championship teams in Terminal C at Logan Airport.

Planet Fitness Announces Plans for New Fitness Center in Lincoln Plaza

Planet Fitness announced on Wednesday, December 1, it will open a new fitness center at 535 Lincoln Street in Lincoln Plaza with doors planned to open in January. The Planet Fitness will open in the former home of Bally’s and will be the second Planet Fitness location in Worcester.

Now through December 22, new members can join for $1 down and $10 a month. Members can cancel at any time. Signup forms are available here, along with a virtual tour. There is also a pre-sale office in the parking lot at Lincoln Plaza that is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 3 PM.

The $1 down offer is also available at the Worcester-Webster Square, Webster, and Shrewsbury Planet Fitness locations.

The new Lincoln Plaza location provides 21,000 square feet and the following features and amenities:

  • 120 state of the art pieces of cardio equipment
  • 73 pieces of expansive strength and free weights equipment

Worcester Tech Fundraiser at Chipotle

On Saturday, December 4, Chipotle at 49 Park Avenue, Suite 1, in Worcester, holds a fundraiser for Worcester Tech DECA.

DECA is a student centered program of leadership and personal development designed specifically for students in marketing.

To contribute to the fundraiser, order online from Chipotle using the code VHGNMAG at checkout between the hours of 5 PM and 9 PM. Contributors can also visit the store in person and show the fundraiser flyer.

From 5 PM and 9 PM on Saturday, 33% of event sales are donated to Worcester Tech DECA.

Big Brother Big Sister Picking Up Donations in Worcester

The Big Brother Big Sister Foundation has a truck scheduled for pickups in the Worcester area on Friday, December 3.

Founded in 1904, Big Brother Big Sisters is the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities across the country.
