In today’s daily 5 Things You Need to Know feature, ThisWeekinWorcester.com explores five important items and stories that Worcester and Central Massachusetts residents should keep a close eye on.

These five things can cover a whole range of subjects and issues that we feel are pertinent to understanding what’s going on in the city and the cities and towns surrounding Worcester.

In today’s edition – Thursday, November 10  – the City of Worcester announces the upcoming release of a commemorative Worcester Tercentennial book and jewelry, Decimation Deli will serve at the Worcester Public Market this week, the Worcester Bravehearts win a league leading three off-season awards, WPI hosts four upcoming winter softball clinics and the Worcester Cares for Kids virtual youth babysitting certificate and training program starts Nov. 22.

Worcester Tercentennial Book and Commemorative Jewelry

The City of Worcester is releasing items to commemorate Worcester’s 300th year as a municipality. In collaboration with LOLA (Love One, Love All) Company, two limited-edition, custom designed pendants will be released for the holiday season.

Tercentennial Pendants

  • A Worcester Tercentennial pendant will be available in the small/19mm size and will feature the official Worcester Tercentennial logo in sterling silver, accented with a choice of white, periwinkle or pink enamel.
  • A “Harvey Ball Smiley Face” pendant will be available in the medium/27mm size and will feature the original Harvey Ball Smiley Face in sterling silver, accented with yellow-gold enamel.

Less than 50 of each pendant will be a price of $130. All proceeds benefit the Worcester Public Library Foundation and the Worcester Historical Museum. Starting Dec. 1, pendants will be available for sale beginning December 1st at the Worcester Public Library, Sharfman’s Jewelers, Worcester Wares, and the Worcester Historical Museum.

Tercentennial Commemorative Book

The Tercentennial commemorative book, “City of Worcester 1722-2022,” will be available for sale for $24.95 beginning Nov. 17 at the Worcester Public Library, Worcester Wares, and the Worcester Historical Museum.

Digital Book Access in 2023

A digital version of the Tercentennial commemorative book will become available on the Worcester Historical Museum’s website after the first of the year. The Worcester Tercentennial Committee gifted $100,000 to make the project possible.

The digital edition will be updated annually for the next two years and will include QR codes that will link the reader to additional materials that expand on topic areas of the book.

Decimation Deli at Worcester Public Market This Week

Decimation Deli, a pop-up deli by Decimation Hot Sauce, will be serving at the Worcester Public Market, at 160 Green St. this Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM.
