Gas Prices Up One Cent This Week in MA

AAA Northeast reports changes in gas prices across the region on a weekly basis.

Massachusetts’s average gas price up one cent from last week, averaging $3.00 per gallon. That price is the seven cents higher than a month ago ($2.93), and 90 cents higher than June 28, 2020 ($2.10).

“Higher crude oil prices and robust demand for gasoline—reinforced by record road travel during the July Fourth weekend—are pushing pump prices higher,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Director of Public and Government Affairs. “We had hoped that global crude production increases would bring some relief at the pump this month, but weekend OPEC negotiations fell through with no agreement reached, and now crude prices are poised to surge to a seven-year high.”

Massachusetts’s average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average.

AAA Northeast’s June 28 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be three cents higher than last week, averaging $3.13 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 8 cents higher than a month ago ($3.05), and 95 cents higher than this day last year ($2.18).

Comparison to neighboring states, according to AAA Northeast:

Region Current Price One Week Ago One Month Ago One Year Ago
Massachusetts $3.00 $2.99 $2.93 $2.10
Rhode Island $3.01 $3.00 $2.96 $2.10
Connecticut $3.13 $3.11 $3.08 $2.16
