City to Honor Worcester Bravehearts for Winning their 4th Championship

The City of Worcester will honor the Worcester Bravehearts at its Out to Lunch Festival and Farmers’ Market series today — August 15 — at 12:45 PM on the Worcester Common.

Last week, the Bravehearts won their fourth Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England championship in their six seasons of existence by defeating the Bristol Blues. 

The Out to Lunch festivities will be held as usual from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the recognition of the Bravehearts taking place at 12:45 PM.

 

Candlelight Vigil to Be Held for International Overdose Awareness Day in Worcester

The City of Worcester Department of Health & Human Services will host a Candlelight Vigil of Memory and Hope in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 21 on the Worcester Common at 4:30 PM.

The event will include a remembrance ceremony, speakers and information on recovery resources. At the conclusion of the event, there will be a candlelight procession from City Hall to the Winslow & Pleasant (Peace) Park on Pleasant Street. This event is free and open to the public. 

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held each year on August 31 to raise overdose awareness and reduce the stigma of drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or have suffered a permanent injury as the result of a drug overdose. 

Quinn’s Irish Pub to Host Tailgate for Dogs

Quinn’s Irish Pub on West Boylston St. in Worcester will be hosting a “Tail-Wagging Tailgate” on Sunday, August 25 from 11 AM – 4 PM.

The event is sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Worcester Animal Rescue League.

The event will feature games, free swag, and activities. Attendees are encouraged to bring their dogs on leashes. 

 

Worcester Fenians Hurling Team to Play in Finals on Saturday

The Worcester Fenians Hurling Team will play in the finals this weekend against the New Hampshire Wolves Hurling Club at the Irish Cultural Center [ICC] in Canton.

The winner of the match makes it to the nationals in Virginia.
