In today’s edition — May 10, 2019 — the Massachusetts State Police add two to most wanted list, the FBI doubles reward to nab Somerville bank robbery suspect, the 9th Annual Red, White and Blue Flagg 5K is next weekend, Worcester is in the 71st percentile of cities with students overleveraged in debt, and the Worcester Bravehearts have hired two new coaches.

MA State Police Add Two to Most Wanted List

On Thursday, the State Police added two new suspects [pictured above] to the Most Wanted Fugitives list — each involved in separate shootings in Springfield. Both men are actively being sought by the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Springfield Police.

Daniel J. Rodriguez, 18,  is wanted on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, intimidation of a witness, and unlawful carrying of a loaded firearm, all in connection with a shooting that occurred on Dwight Street, Springfield, on the night of July 28, 2018.

Aleczander Liriano, 21, is wanted on charges of assault and battery with a firearm, armed robbery, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building following the shooting of a female victim on the morning of March 5, 2019 at the intersection of Dickinson Street and Lansing Place in Springfield. The woman, who was shot in the torso, suffered serious injuries but survived.

FBI Doubles Reward for Information on Somerville Bank Robber

The FBI Boston Violent Crimes Task Force and the Somerville Police Department are doubling its reward to $20,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of a bank robber, believed to be armed and dangerous.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at approximately 9:57 a.m., the unknown male subject entered Middlesex Federal Savings Bank, 1 College Avenue in Somerville, Massachusetts, and allegedly committed an armed robbery.

The suspect wore a blue beanie, a dark glove on his left hand, and a hooded camouflage jacket featuring a Nike logo on the left side above his chest. He wore blue pants, black sneakers, and carried a black and red Under Armour backpack.

Bravehearts Add to Assistant Coaches to Staff

The Worcester Bravehearts have hired two assistant coaches to join head coach Alex Dion in the dugout this summer. The team has named Adam Chase in the role of Hitting Coach and tapped Tyler Kelly to be the team’s Pitching Coach. Both are currently coaching in New England college programs, and they will join the Bravehearts for the first team workouts on Memorial Day Weekend.

 

Worcester in 71st Percentile for Cities with Students in Overleveraged Debt

In their latest report, the data experts at WalletHub have ranked all 2,510 cities in terms of each city’s population 25 and older that are most overleveraged with college tuition debt. 

According to the report — 2019’s Cities with Most & Least College Debt — Worcester is in the 71st percentile with a median student debt of just over $20k. 

 

The 9th Annual Red, White and Blue Flagg 5K Run/Walk is Next Weekend

On Saturday, May 18 at 9 AM, the 9th Annual Red, White and Blue Flagg 5k Run/Walk will take place at Flagg St. School in Worcester to support Worcester Public Schools.

The money raised goes towards educational programs and technology upgrades at Flagg St. school and other participating schools in Worcester.
