QCC Wins CPR Challenge Award

Quinsigamond Community College [QCC] was the 2018-2019 College “Hands-Only” CPR Challenge award winner at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association of Central Massachusetts for training over 800 QCC students, faculty and staff in the “Hands Only” CPR technique.

A total of nine schools participated in the challenge this year, with a total of over 5,400 people becoming trained in critical cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) lifesaving techniques.

In fall 2018, QCC’s senior nursing students participated in the AHA’s “Hands Only” immediate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.

Coes Reservoir Closed Today, June 28

Coes Reservoir will be closed today — Friday, June 28  — for the application of the herbicide fluridone, or Sonar. 

Worcester residents are advised to stay out of the water, discontinue boat use and fishing, and keep their pets out of the water for the day of the treatment, so as not to interfere with herbicide application. Additionally, use of water from Coes Reservoir for irrigation should be discontinued for the next 90 days. Beaches will be posted prior to the application.

The water will be safe for all uses apart from irrigation on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

 

Worcester Railers Sign Defenseman Bobby Shea

The Worcester Railers have signed defenseman Bobby Shea to an ECHL contract for the 2019-20 season.
 
Entering his sixth professional season, Shea has 94 points (20-74-90) and 450 penalty minutes in 211 ECHL regular season games the Reading Royals (2012-13), Toledo Walleye (2013-14), Wheeling Nailers (2014-15), South Carolina Stingrays (2015-16), and Fort Wayne Komets (2016-18). He won a Kelly Cup Championship with the Reading Royals in 2013 with Barry Almeida and contributed two goals and an assist in that 15-game playoff run. 

 

Farmers Market Hosting Free Wagon Tours of Future Canal District Shuttle Route

The Canal District Farmers Market is hosting free horse and wagon tours of the Canal District’s future shuttle route. 

The tour will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM starting at the new Canal District Shuttle parking lot at 156 Washington St. 

The tours will be on repeat with this schedule:

Stop 1: Crompton Place
Stop 2: The Worcester Ice Center
Stop 3: The Queen’s Cups and Neighbors
Stop 4: Worcester Public Market
Stop 5:  Canal District Shuttle 156 Washington st.
