A local man will appear in federal court in Worcester for a detention hearing on Friday, November 12, on a child pornography charge.
Joseph Michael Smith, 59, of Spencer, faces one count of possession of child pornography after being charged on Wednesday, November 10.
According to federal prosecutors, a search of Smith’s residents led to the discovery of 35 videos depicting child pornography on Smith’s laptop. Smith also admitted ownership of three email addresses associated with usernames that uploaded child pornography to Kik messenger between October 7, 2020, and May 29.
The charge of possession of child pornography carries provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
