Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation of Worcester Private School

WORCESTER – Police officers responded to multiple threatening calls, including a bomb threat, at Alhuda Academy at 248 East Mountain Street in Worcester on Thursday, April 7, shortly before 2 PM.

According to the Worcester Police Department, the threatening calls originated from one phone number. The Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident.

Police redirected traffic and evacuated the school and nearby residences. Explosive ordnance disposal K-9 units from the Massachusetts State Police, Worcester Police Department and WPI searched inside and outside the building and reopened the building by 3:30 PM.

The Worcester Police Department said it will conduct additional periodic checks of religious institutions leading up to the upcoming holidays.

In 2022, Christians celebrate Easter on Sunday, April 17, Jews celebrate Passover from the evening of Friday, April 15 through the evening of Saturday, April 23, and Muslims celebrate Ramadan from the evening of Saturday, April 2 through the evening of Monday, May 2.

Alhuda Academy is a New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accredited Islamic School serving pre-K through eighth grade students.
