WORCESTER – A 20-year-old Worcester man was arrested on Merrick St. on Tuesday night following a foot pursuit with Worcester police officers.

According to the Worcester PD, around 6:50 PM, Gang Unit officers saw Daquan Campbell, of Beacon St, in the area of Hawley St. It was known by the officers that Campbell had a warrant for his arrest.

When police stepped out of the cruiser and identified themselves to Campbell, he took off running towards Austin St.

Police pursued Campbell and chased him over several fences and throughout the neighborhood. One officer attempted to grab Campbell when he was climbing a fence, but Campbell kicked him away.

During the chase, Campbell threw a metal object — which turned out to be a black and silver handgun — under a car. Campbell doesn’t have a license to carry a firearm.

After a short time, Campbell was stopped in front of 1 Merrick St. where he was placed under arrest and brought to the Worcester police station.

Campbell  is charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Disorderly Conduct, Malicious Destruction of Property Under $250, and the warrant. He will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
