Suspect Arrested After Attacking Police with Large Wrench

WORCESTER – Police officers dispatched to Canterbury St. around 9 AM on Friday, April 2, in response to a man barricaded in a first floor room with a wrench and knives.

While positioned outside the building officers attempted to negotiate with the individual.

Officers came into contact with the man at the back door of the residence. The man first swung a large wrench at the officers, then threw a yellow liquid in a bowl at them.

The suspect again attacked with the wrench when police disarmed him.

Officer arrested the suspect and found two knives in his possession along with the wrench.

After the incident, some officers reported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. One officer required eyes being flushed after being hit with the liquid.

The Massachusetts State Police Hazmat Team reported to the scene to analyze the liquid. Their tests found it contained prescription medication mixed with acetone and urine.

Charges are pending. Police did not release the name of the suspect.
