WORCESTER – City Manager Eric Batista announced on Thursday that Fabian Barracks will be appointed the city’s next Cultural Development Officer. The appointment goes into effect on March 27.

For over 10 years, Barracks managed a theatre and film company in Jamaica, wrote and directed 11 national theatre projects, and produced two film series that focused on youth development and advocated for human rights. He was also program coordinator for the National Family Planning Board and was part of executing strategies to accelerate sexual health testing while managing a team of 40 outreach workers.

Baracks will also serve as executive director of the Worcester Cultural Coalition (WCC). WCC is a public-private partnership established in 1999 between the City of Worcester and 12 cultural organizations with a mission to draw on Worcester’s rich and diverse cultural assets to foster economic revitalization; support active, creative engagement for all; and promote a strong cultural identity for Greater Worcester.

“I am excited about this opportunity to advance Worcester’s cultural agenda,” said Barracks. “This is a beautiful and diverse city, and it is essential that all residents feel a sense of belonging and are able to celebrate cultural expressions through the support of the city.”
