WORCESTER – The Board of Trustees at Becker College voted on Sunday, March 28, to close at the end of the current academic year.
Students in the Class of 2021 at Becker College will graduate on Saturday, May 8. The College will provide transition services through August 31.
According to a statement from its Board of Trustees, the college implemented several cost-cutting measures after a fall in enrollment during 2018-19. Examples include real estate sold, leases not renewed, a hiring freeze and staff cut.
Trustees also sought mergers and affiliations with other institutions to attempt to avoid closing the College.
The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 caused further enrollment decreases. The cost of a rapid transition to remote learning also impacted the College’s finances.
