WORCESTER – A local man pleaded guilty to the murder of a woman on Lapierre Street in Worcester in 2019.
Thomas Bergstrom, 42, of Worcester, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of Jennifer Vazquez-Rivera on October 2, 2019. Vazquez-Rivera was discovered inside her Lapierre Street apartment, suffering from stab wounds. EMS rusher her to the hospital, where medical professionals pronounced her dead.
Investigators followed witness statements and cell phone evidence, which led them to Bergstrom. He turned himself in to police on October 4, 2019. Since that time, he remained in custody.
The judge in the case sentenced Bergstrom to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
Bergstrom’s guilty plea came through an agreement with the Office of the Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. The defense requested the possibility of parole after 22 years, ut the judge sided with the recommendations of prosecutors.
According to Early’s office, the family of Vazquez-Rivera supported the plea deal ” as it avoided her two minor children from having to testify at and participate in her murder trial.”
