WORCESTER - The City of Worcester will honor two men who helped build the original Blackstone Canal will on Thursday, May 25.
City officials will unveil a statue honoring Tobias Boland and Benjamin Wright, and their contributions. Boland was a contractor who brought canal building experience with his immigration from Ireland. Wright was an engineer who had previously worked on the Erie Canal in New York.
The statue will sit at Rockland Trust Plaza, at 45 Green St. The unveiling ceremony is at 3 PM.
The city selected Rockland Trust Plaza as the location to greet those travelling from Downtown Worcester as they pass into the Canal District.
