UPDATE:

WORCESTER – The Worcester Police Dept. is blocking off Main St. in front of City Hall to Front St. after a bomb threat was received at the Santander Bank building at 446 Main St.

According to the Worcester PD, the threat is currently under investigation. People that work in the building are being evacuated.

Spokesperson for the WPD Lt. Sean Murtha told ThisWeekinWorcester.com that the police are using an “…abundance of caution, and “a police bomb dog will go through the area to ensure that there is no bomb.”

According to police radio dispatch, an email was sent to the bank demanding money and if the request wasn’t met the sender was going to detonate the bomb.

The call from dispatch came in between 2:30 PM and 2:45 PM. Police had Main St. blocked off around 3 PM.

The Worcester PD is asking the public to stay away from the vicinity of City Hall.
