WORCESTER - Gunshots on Saturday led police to Fox Street and the arrest of a man for an illegal firearm.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at around 3 AM and arrived near Fox Street to find a vehicle involved in a crash and evidence that shots were fired. The vehicle was registered to a Chandler Street address.

A short time later, an officer attempted to engage a traffic stop of a speeding vehicle that crossed over the center line on Chandler Street. The vehicle sped away for a short time, before two men jumped out and ran in opposite directions.

Officers tracked one of the fleeing men to Preston Street, where he was arrested and identified as James Cabrera, 19, of Worcester. Police say Cabrera had a handgun when arrested and does not have a license to carry firearms.

Cabrera faces charges of Carrying a Firearm without a License, Resisting Arrest, and Trespassing.
