WORCESTER – Devalter Marini Rocha, 54 of Framingham, was struck by a 2011 Toyota Camry while crossing Chandler Street just after midnight on Wednesday morning.
When Worcester police arrived on the scene Rocha was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
A 23-year-old male was driving the Toyota at the time of the accident. He has yet to be identified.
The preliminary investigation indicates that operator hit a parked vehicle and travelled on the sidewalk hitting a flower box and a sign. After entering Chandler Street again the vehicle travelled across the double yellow line and hit Rocha.
Only after hitting a parked 2004 Jaguar did the vehicle come to a stop on the front lawn of Worcester State University.
Charges are currently pending against the driver.
