WORCESTER – The monthlong closure of a portion of Highland Street has changed, according to the City if Worcester.
The portion of Highland Street from Newton Square to Park Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic (headed toward downtown). A detour will divert traffic at Newton Square onto Pleasant Street to Park Avenue.
Traffic signal timing has been adjusted at the intersection of Park Avenue and Pleasant Street to help accommodate detoured traffic. However, drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to avoid the area when at all possible.
Traffic travelling westbound, headed away from downtown to Newton Square, will use Highland Street as normal.
This configuration will remain in place during work to replace a gas main by Eversource. Completion of the work is expected by Friday, Aug. 23.
Last week the city announced a different configuration to accommodate the gas main replacement.
