WORCESTER – The Worcester City Council meets on Tuesday, July 20, at 5 PM. The Council has two weeks off before meeting again on August 10.

There are three items on the agenda tonight that may be of interest to Worcester residents.

Buncoat High School Funding

Mayor Joe Petty asks for a financial plan from the City Manager’s office to build a new Burncoat High School.

Seeking the Sale of the Former Supermarket on Mill Street

At-large Councilor Gary Rosen seeks a report on how to persuade the owner of the property on Mill Street, to sell or lease the property.

Rosen appears to have some passion about the issue, calling the property “…an eyesore and an inexcusable blight on the neighborhood since the supermarket closed eighteen years ago.” The order asks for “..a report concerning what steps need to be taken to effectively persuade the thoughtless owner to sell or lease the property for housing and/or retail development.”

Memorial Summit Triangle Improvements

District 1 Councilor Sean Rose seeks a Department of Public Works review of potential improvements at Memorial Summit Square, the triangle at Burncoat Street and Mountain Street. Rose seeks walkability improvements, crosswalks with benches, plantings and a potential tree on the space.
