See Closed Roads and Parking Restrictions for Tercentennial Weekend

WORCSTER – The Worcester Police Department has issued a traffic and parking advisory for downtown Worcester on Saturday, June 11 due to the Worcester Tercentennial 5k Road Race, starting at 9 AM, the Parade, starting at 11 AM, and the Festival, starting at noon.

Norwich Street will be closed at 5 AM to 7 PM.

The following streets will be closed from 8 AM to 7 PM:

  • Franklin Street (Main Street to Church Street);
  • Front Street (Main Street to Church Street);
  • Church Street (Front Street to Franklin Street); and
  • Portland Street (Franklin Street to Myrtle Street)

The Tercentennial 5k Road Race begins at 9 AM and will cause temporary closures and detours on the following streets.

  • Mechanic Street;
  • Main Street;
  • Southbridge Street;
  • Myrtle Street;
  • McGrath Boulevard;
  • Green Street;
  • Plymouth Street;
  • Summit Street;
  • Ash Street;
  • Washington Street;
  • Madison Street;
  • Southbridge Street; and
  • School Street.

The Tercentennial Parade starts at 11 AM and impact the following streets:

  • South side of Myrtle Street between Southbridge & McGrath Boulevard;
  • Prescott Street;
  • Faraday Street;
  • Grove Street;
  • Salisbury Street; and
  • Main Street from the Worcester County Courthouse to the Hanover Theatre for Performing Arts.

Parking Restrictions

From 6 AM until the conclusion of the parade (around 12:30 PM), no parking will be allowed on either side of Main Street or State Street.

From 6 AM to 7 PM no parking will be allowed on:

  • Norwich Street;
  • Front Street;
  • Franklin Street;
  • Church Street; and
  • on Portland Street from Franklin Street to Federal Street

Parking will also be limited on Federal Street from 6 AM to 7 PM.

The WRTA offers fare-free program and free parking is available in the following municipal lots:

  • Federal Plaza – 570 Main Street
  • Major Taylor – 30 Major Taylor Boulevard
  • Pearl-Elm – 20 Pearl Street
  • Union Station – 225 Franklin Street
  • Worcester Common – 3 Eaton Place
  • Municipal Parking Lots Amtrak/MBTA – 25 Shrewsbury Street
  • Grafton Street – 39 Grafton Street
  • Green Street – 96 Green Street
  • Highland Street – 40 Highland Street
  • Millbury Street – 51 Millbury Street
  • Water Street – 85 Water Street

The Worcester Police Department is advising drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to take extra care to obey the rules of the road and to be considerate of others traveling on local streets in the areas surrounding the event. Please plan ahead and seek alternate routes as the areas mentioned will be congested.
