WORCESTER – Coes Reservoir will receive preventative treatment for algae on Thursday, Sept. 5.
Contractors hired by the City of Worcester Department of Sustainability and Resilience will apply the treatment of algaecide copper sulfate. Applying copper sulfate to control the grown of toxin-producing algae is common practice, safe, and effective.
The product poses minimal risks to humans and animals after the application is complete.
The city advises residents to take precautions on Thursday, the day of the treatment.
- Stay out of the water;
- Do not boat or fish;
- Do not use the water for irrigation of plants or lawns, or watering livestock.
The City of Worcester produced a video series, “The Blue Space Minute,” to provide more information on toxin-producing algae.
