Worcester County Community Organizations Win State Grants

Governor Charlie Baker’s office announced the release of $10 million in immediate relief and support to individuals and households experiencing severe economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds are awarded to 14 organizations through the Community Foundations Grant Program for COVID-19 Relief. Funding can be used for vital services such as food security, housing and utilities support, emergency childcare and transportation, and other unmet needs of the community.

The Community Foundation Grant awards are part of the plan to stabilize the Massachusetts’s economy, called Partnerships for Recovery.

These one-time grants to community organizations range from $200,000 to nearly $1.7 million.

Each foundation will re-grant program funds to local or regional community-based organizations with the capacity to provide immediate relief and support for individuals and families.

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation is the recipient of an award for $896,152 targeted for housing support, utilities, emergency food, transportation, technology needs for remote work/school, emergency childcare.

The Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts is also receiving an award of $679,552 directed to housing support, utilities, essentials to respond to barriers to work/school, food security, domestic violence services.

The Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts serves Athol, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster and Orange.
