WORCESTER – All hail the Queen.

Thursday marked the much-anticipated opening of popular fast food chain, Dairy Queen, on Grafton St. in Worcester.

The restaurant — which from the outside looks like a typical Dairy Queen Grill and Chill — welcomed customers at its entrance with a “Welcome to Your Worcester DQ” sign.

Dairy Queen opened at 11 AM on Thursday and, by 2 PM, the parking lot was nearly full and the drive through line wrapped around the building, but the busiest part of the restaurant was inside of it. The line inside was quite long, snaking around the front and extending to the back of the restaurant.

It was so busy, in fact, that customers approached the line at the door and at the drive-thru and change their minds. They turned around and left to try again another day.

As she handled customers’ orders, a worker named Jenny said that “it’s been crazy all day and it will probably be just as busy through the afternoon.”

The customers at Dairy Queen were altogether surprised by just how busy the restaurant was.

Some customers like a young man named, Ryan, were visiting Dairy Queen for a lunch break and a sweet dessert. Ryan said, “I wanted to see how the Worcester Dairy Queen would compare to some of the others in different towns.”

Ryan, a West Boylston resident, said he had been to the DQ on West Boylston St. in West Boylston and that Dairy Queen’s food “never disappoints.”

Another man, Aide, stopped on his commute to the fast food chain in order to purchase an ice cream cake for his wife’s birthday. As he was standing in line, Aide said,”I have never actually had Dairy Queen before, but I am excited to try it.”

The Worcester Dairy Queen is already in full service, providing the community with tasty food and memorable experiences that families and friends can share over a delicious dessert.

On such a warm day, Dairy Queen’s trademark ice cream, the Blizzard, as well as their other delicious sundaes, were the best way to cool down and the most popular items ordered on the lunch rush.

Perhaps Dairy Queen’s biggest fan today was an eight year old girl named Valerie. She was happily eating ice cream and she exclaimed that, “Dairy Queen always has the best ice cream. I know because I’ve tried it before and I love all of it!”
