WORCESTER – An officer working a paid detail assignment near Vinson Street saw a man wanted for carjacking and other crimes, leading to his arrest on Nov. 15, and the discovery of multiple firearms.
The officer working the detail saw Caleb Dayton, 21, get out of a vehicle and enter a Vinson St. address. The officer knew Dayton had outstanding warrants and reported what he saw to the Worcester Police Department (WPD).
Officers at WPD confirmed Dayton had warrants for carjacking, larceny, breaking and entering, and drug charges. Officers also discovered that Dayton does not have a license to drive a motor vehicle.
Before officers arrived, Dayton left the address. Officers established surveillance at the location.
After returning to the address, Dayton attempted to flee inside the residence, but officers detained him in the doorway and placed him under arrest.
Dayton had a Tec-9 firearm in his possession when officers arrested him.
After additional investigation, officers successfully applied for a search warrant of the residence.
While executing the warrant, officers located multiple AR-platform rifles, a shotgun, a handgun, and what police describe as a large amount of ammunition.
In addition to the existing warrants, Dayton faces charges of:
- Unlawfully Carrying a Firearm;
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm;
- Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device;
- Improper Storage of a Firearm;
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card;
- Armed Career Criminal Level 1; and
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
