WORCESTER – New renderings for the proposed redevelopment of Piccadilly Plaza on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester will be presented later this month to the City of Worcester’s Planning Board.
The plan for the new development includes tearing down all existing buildings — including Terra Brasilis restaurant and a two-story retail space — and putting up three commercial buildings, including a Starbucks with a drive-thru and a bank with a drive-thru.
Renderings for the project include a Starbucks, a retail space with two storefronts and a Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) branch.
A representative with DCU couldn’t confirm the opening of a branch at Piccadilly Plaza but said the credit union is in the “very early stages of exploring the possibility of the new development at Piccadilly Plaza as a potential branch location.”
DCU already operates a branch a few blocks away at 225 Shrewsbury St. It’s unknown if the proposed new location will replace the current location or if DCU will have two branches on either side of Shrewsbury Street.
Plans for the proposed bank show it will be constructed in the plaza near where Terra Brasilis presently stands. The Starbucks will be built closer to Shrewsbury Street, and the plan shows the retail space in the plaza’s corner closest to Belmont Street.
DCU has three branches in Worcester, including on Gold Star Boulevard and on Tobias Boland Way in the Walmart Supercenter Plaza.
The Piccadilly Plaza redevelopment proposal from Bohler Engineering and American East Coast II LLC will be presented to the Planning Board on Aug. 17.
