Governor Baker’s office announced on Wednesday, March 3, that some 400,000 workers in education in Massachusetts will be eligible to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments starting on March 11.
According to the COVID-19 Response Command Center, all K-12 educators, child care workers and K-12 school staff will become part of current eligibility pool on March 11. Those 65 years and older and individuals with two or more eligible medical conditions can currently schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine.
Workers in education may schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine at any of the 170 sites open to all eligible residents.
The Governor’s office also said the COVID-19 Command Center will work to designate specific days at mass vaccination sites for educators to receive the vaccine. There are currently seven mass vaccination sites in Massachusetts.
Eligible residents may schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine on the state’s website.
On Thursday, March 4, some 12,000 appointments for the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will open. That is fewer than the number of new appointments opened in previous weeks.
The Command Center said the reduction is because of the growing need to accommodate second dose appointments and the limited supply available for distribution by the federal government.
