WORCESTER – After only a little more than two years, the British Beer Company [BBC] on Shrewsbury St. will close its doors in the very near future.
According to multiple sources, the restaurant — which opened in early April 2016 at 225 Shrewsbury St. and is the only non-fast food chain restaurant on the street — will close its doors within the next several months.
Sources told ThisWeekinWorcester.com [TWIW] that the business did not meet its expectations in sales and foot traffic as the restaurant wasn’t “fully embraced” by the Shrewsbury St. neighborhood and other patrons visiting “Restaurant Row.”
Additionally, according to sources, the return on investment — a complete renovation of the former Coral Seafood restaurant — fell “way short” of where the company expected to be by this point.
The company has closed three other locations in the past 10 months — Walpole (closed Christmas Eve 2017), Framingham (April 2018), and Danvers (May 2018).
The BBC still operates in Hyannis, Franklin, Manchester, NH and several other locations.
No official closing date of the Worcester restaurant has been announced yet.
