WORCESTER - A former U.S. Postal Service employee, who pleaded guilty to stealing packages at the Gardner Post Office, was sentenced to home confinement and probation in Worcester Federal Court on Wednesday.
Roberta Feliz, 33, of Fitchburg, received a sentence of three years of probation, with the first six months served in home confinement. She pleaded guilty to one count of theft of mail by an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in April 2022.
According to federal prosecutors, while Feliz was an employee of the postal service, she stole over $90,000 in cash from packages mailed from a tractor supply company to its bank between February and July 2020. Surveillance footage showed Feliz removing envelopes from the postal service floor into the employee locker room or women's bathroom.
When approached by law enforcement in August 2020, Feliz admitted to stealing the packages and said she used the money to pay off debt and sent some to family overseas.
